Texas Ranch Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 3 jalapeño chiles (or more, to taste, roughly chopped)
  • 10 clove garlic (roughly chopped)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 cup strong black coffee
  • 1/3 cup unsulphered dark molasses
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup pure chile powder
  • 2 tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
Method
  1. Warm the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions, chiles and garlic and sauté over medium heat until everything is softened. Mix in the remaining ingredients and bring the sauce to a simmer. Cover and cook over very low heat for 35 minutes.
  2. Allow the sauce to cool to room temperature.
Purée the sauce in a food processor or blender. Refrigerate the sauce overnight to allow the flavors to blend.
